The series shows how 21st century crashes are caused by three new factors:1) The world’s fleet is ageing. Many planes have been in service for over 30 years and, quite literally, the cracks are starting to show; 2) Increasingly, planes are replacing people with sophisticated computer systems. But this is creating a whole new set of problems, such as encouraging pilots to take risks that they would once never have considered; 3) How the pressure to make airlines pay means that pilots can be overworked, perhaps with catastrophic results
Each film shows the human cost of air disasters, with testimony from witnesses, survivors and the families of the bereaved. We interview the investigators who unravel the causes of the crashes, and the experts who can make sense of them.
